33DC Day 12: A Pattern in your Home
Zoya Skylar with dots inspired by scarf

Ack - life. Well, I ended up taking some extra hours at the library, so that my boss could go to an ILA event, and the midterm for my Javascript class came out this week, so I haven't had time to change my mani or post much :( Sad face. I ended up wearing this manicure almost all week, which is great cuz I kind of love it :) It's not super exciting, but I enjoyed it and got quite a few compliments and "How'd you do that?"s ;) and it was a lot of fun to have my nails match my scarf! So anyway, forgive the cracks and tip growth - I've been wearing this for like 5 days, and frankly, this level of wear is pretty darn amazing - One of my favorite things about Zoya! Yep, this is with no topcoat.

So I know "pattern in your wardrobe" is coming up, and technically a scarf is clothing ... sort of. But I just got this scarf last month and it's been hanging around my room, so I almost feel like it's a pattern in my home! Plus i really wanted to try a matching mani ever since I got it. I love blue nails, and I got to mess around with my dotting tools a bit more (I don't do enough dotticures!) The base color is Zoya Skylar. It's a bit darker than my actual scarf, but the dusty blue and the shimmeriness of Skylar reminded me a lot of this diaphenous scarf. Check it out in the sun! The dots on top are Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White Out, the white to end all whites for nail art.

I found that, while experimenting with the dotting tools, although I have 5 different sizes of tips, it seems to matter more how much polish you have on the tip how big the dot is; plus you can always make a larger dot by "rolling" the dotting nib a little on the nail, like slightly in a circle to create a larger edge. I found that easier and more reliable to create the different size dots in rows than actually using two different sizes of nib. Dotting's not as simple as it can seem! Like applying a one-coater for the first time, it has a learning curve!

Anyway, it snowed a couple days ago for the first time here in Iowa! And it got super cold all of a sudden - so I broke out my awesome fingerless gloves, which happened to go harmoniously with my nails! Boo yah! In case you want to know, I got these at a local boutique called Silver Spider a number of years ago - don't know where you'd get these now. They also have a mitten flap knitted on that can be folded back and buttoned when not in use, for extra warmths. :)

I've reviewed Zoya Skylar before here, and I compared it to a Maybelline denim here. Suffice to say, besides Zoya's tendancy to pull away from the nail edge for some reason, it dries excellently, covers in 2 coats, and I absolutely love this shimmery shade!

So, I'm going to call an intermission in the 33DC - in an effort to get back on track, I'll be skipping the ones in between and resuming with this Wednesday's theme (Day 17). Also, in between then and now I've got an awesome new manicure technique to show you from one of my favorite indy polishes - it will blow your mind how much this looks like something you'd see at work or school all the time!
