Acetone Files
Introducing: Mustache Lacquer Witch's Night
33DC Day 9: Chevrons

Halloween's just around the corner, and I couldn't resist putting on my first Halloween franken (ha ha, sort of a pun)! So here is Witch's Night, along with some messing around with stick-on gems later.

Mustache Lacquer Witch's Night is a slightly sheer so-dark-it's-almost-black blue with bright orange glitter and finer yellow (looks a bit green in certain lights - all the better for Halloween!) shimmer. I'm wearing it with a glue base coat, because the orange glitter is large enough grains to stick pretty tight, and one coat of China Glaze Fast Forward on top. The glitter is a bit hard to get in pictures, but unlike in the bottle, where the orange tends to stick to the outside, the polish is more equally full of orange and yellow glitters. I named it Witch's Night because it reminded me of the idea behind L'Oreal Owl's Night, which was a kind of sheer black base with gold shimmer in it, and I love me a good dark polish with shimmer! The colors of the glitter reminded me of Halloween, and seem kind of beautifully sinister to me!

I also just went to a big blowout sale at a hobby store and got a few sheets of rhinestones, and one of the colors I had been sorely needing was orange. Unlike the ones I normally use, these were the same size but in lines with a sticky backing, so I decided to see how that would work for nail art. Short answer? Not well. The glue is kind of chunky and obvious, and holds just well enough to make shifting the gem hard but not to keep it from falling off going about your day. You'd have to put a topcoat on anyway, and that's what I was aiming NOT to have to do. So just get the iron-ons or lose gems, or get these and peel the glue off and then base- and top-coat it like normal - despite being sticky already, they're not secure enough or delicate enough for nail art.

The one advantage is they were already lined up perfectly in strips with the glue, which made making the chevron a bit easier! Admittedly it's a pretty lame chevron, but I like this shape on my nail and I'd like to try it again with some different nail art.
