Acetone Files
St Paddy's with Pure Ice Sheer Luck

March 17, 2013
Okay, I kind of did just buy the new green diamond glitter Pure Ice Sheer Luck for a St Patrick's day mani. But it's sure a lot of fun! For someone who doesn't like green, I seem to wear it a lot, ha ha! Well, I'm determined not to get pinched, so I embraced the green for this year's celebration of the Emerald Isle.

I wasn't sure what to put Sheer Luck over for a while. I tried Free Spirit, but it was kind of TOO green. Then I stumbled upon Revlon Rainforest, which is a really beautiful super-dark forest green with lighter green shimmer. I love those dark glitters, and it's the type of green I would actually wear in normal life. First I thought I would keep just the Rainforest and do an accent nail of Sheer Luck over it, but I LOVED how Sheer Luck looked over the dark green, so I did all my nails that way!

The dark color really brings out the glitter in Sheer Luck, obviously, and Rainforest is a duller forest green and Sheer Luck is a yellow-ish spring green, so the whole thing looks a bit gold in certain lights, which is appropriate for that pot of gold idea! (I almost wanted to add some gold glitter, but felt it would be too much. I'm glad I left it - it's sparkly enough as it is!)

I'm not such a fan of the gaudy, complicated glitter topcoat, and I actually think in the future I would use just the base spring green glitter of Sheer Luck and not bother to fish out the diamonds, as a more versatile topcoat. But for St. Patrick's, it's time to break out the fun, and those iridescent diamonds add a little festivity to the manicure. I didn't realize when I bought it there are actually two colors of diamonds: a sort of purple/lavender and an aqua/green, all with a rainbow sheen. They catch the light like, well, diamonds or precious stones amongst the spring green. If you look close, you can also see that the fine base glitter itself is variable in size, from small round glitter to extra fine glitter, which impressed me - it's probably a bit harder to produce than uniform glitter, and I love that sophisticated touch!

Review: You have to fish the diamonds out and place them, but that's a given. Otherwise, the base is very smooth and easy to apply, easy to get a good coat, and easy to layer if you want. There's just the right amount of glitter to apply well but not so much that it gets globby and thick. The diamonds are beautiful and a great idea - there are at least 4 more of these iridescent diamond glitters in various colors in the new Pure Ice line too, so you can pick your hue. A

Happy Irish Day everyone! I'm not Irish, but everyone can appreciate some Irish cheer. Today is the perfect time for polishaholics to slather on the green, so you don't get pinched. (I have to say, I own ONE presentable green shirt, so I would have been in trouble without nail polish!)
