5th ave theatre's A Sunday in the Park with George

So I went and saw A Sunday in the Park with George at the 5th ave theatre downtown seattle. I was pretty stoked to go because my school had a promotional code that got me a great seat that would usually cost around 90 bucks for only 10. I had to see the play for my costume class.

I am sorely dissapointed though. The play/musical has gotten great reviews (or so I heard because I stay away from reviews to form my own opinion) and its a "tour" show being one that was on broadway in newyork.

I'm pretty sure it was the play itself that I didn't like because I loved the theatre (chandelier eating dragons FTW) and the visuals for the play were stunning.
The costumes were greatn the lighting amazing and so intertwined with the set design that its hard to tell where one began and where one ended.

I even enjoyed the songs and the story of the play. But the play itself.... Let's just say I'm glad it was only 10 bucks but 10$ spent at mcdonalds would have been more satisfying.

On top of that it was soooo long. Started at 8 and ended at around 11. When the first act ended I was ready to leave, almost did actually. Didn't realize there was a second act. Or moreso thought the second act was more of a talk than part of the production. Well it was part of the production. But the jump between the two acts was so severe that they could have been two seperate plays and I would have been satisfied.

Actually I liked both halfs of the production. But I liked them as seperate pieces. It was a huge stretch of a thin dainty line to connect the two acts and somewhere along the line the playwright and the director didn't realized that the line had snapped.

After the first act I was satisfied. I wish I would have left. The second act, while I liked the "high-tech 80's" light show and the one actress in something today would be raver punk, the second act ruined it for me.

We had george's great grandson making art reafing his great grandmothers diary and all of a sudden... Transported back in time. But still in his modern clothes and he is all of a sudden his great grandfather? Then beating us with the fucking message that ended the first act again was just as futile as repeating for the millionth time ... Which makes the original point no longer relevant because it is ignored.

So yeah. Late night, early morning. Not fun. Wouldn't be to dissapointed if I had left after the first act.
