well outreach is officially 1 month away. We're going to Paris for two weeks and then Jordan for two months. I'm looking forward to both, but I'm not like jumping at the bit to go to Jordan...the sociologist in me is totally interested to see the culture there...experience something different etc. but I think by the time we're finished I'll be glad ( Read more... )

dan brown is clearly not pushing his book as absolute truth because the book falls under the category FICTION, rendering all that irrelevant.

i totally agree with you mere, there are more important things to be concerned about. i just finished the book saturday [which i borrowed from a friend so i didnt have to spend money on it anyway] and it was entertaining and made me think, by trying to figure out all the clues, etc. i also agree with what you said about the whole rights thing.. just because you might not agree with it doesn't mean they don't have the right to publish it, as someone could argue the same about something you write.

"You can't just gun everyone down "
" a colossal waste of time"

hah i love you. i miss you lots!

So what if someone wrote a book about your mom and in it she would be written as a prostitute/drug addict and went around to different towns selling herself and what not... but dont worry, its just FICTION. Wouldn't you still be offended by someone writting such blamsphemy about her? Thats the way Christians should feel about "fictional" stuff being written about their Savior. I'm not here to picket about the movie or judge people who do see it, they have freedom of choice, I totally agree with that. But I still want to encourage Christians to not be like the world and get entertainment out of false statements about their Savior/Creator.

I never said he published it as a nonfictional book. I just said there was false teachings in that book.

There is just something wrong that Dan Brown can write numerous books that dont get widely known, but when he writes a book containing false teachings on Christianity... it takes off. Thats what the world wants. Thats not what Christians should want or support.

i might be offended, but that doesnt mean the book isnt allowed to be written. its just fiction, and i dont take fiction for fact. reading his book has not changed any of my beliefs about Jesus and his life. the end.

Amen. My primary gripe with the DaVinci Code is the attack on Christ's character. Fiction or not, that offends me.

And when Dan Brown presents as plausable a vast church conspiracy, even fictionally depicted, it just affirms beliefs in non-Christians that the church is corrupt.

Seth, I have to say that I disagree that the conspiracy in the book is anything but plausible for one thing. And secondly, the biggest stumbling block in evangelism of non-believers is the church itself. (I'm about to post an article about this). We shouldn't be blaming Dan Brown for that. I'm not trying to go out on a limb and defend him, there were things in the book that were grossly inaccurate and offensive. But what I'm just trying to point out is that perhaps we should think about protesting against the sickening injustices in this world...the orphans, the widows, the people starving everyday or being trafficked into prostitution...God is constantly exhorting us to that and when I hear about people pointing the finger at Dan Brown, picketing the Da Vinci code, etc, it just saddens me that the church is getting more known for that than it actually is trying to end injustic. I basically said this even more thoroughly in my response above.
