prepare the boarding party

I had a friend who kicks ass at guitar back in Wisconsin. The only bad thing is he wants to make it big. Actually that's not bad but he doesn't care how he makes it big so he sacrifices talent for popularity but even then his shit ain't that popular. When I asked him who his band sounded like he said "Lifehouse"

Lifehouse.

Are you fucking kidding me

Lifehouse

As in the band that plays "I'm falling into blah blah blah blahblah. I suck and sing like Nickelback wants something-something I'm not important enough to remember lyrics to"

Which brings me to the topic of selling out.

How could any self respecting person make music like that?
The thing that killed me was the kid knew the music sucked and hated it but just went along with it. I think that's when I first considered killing him.
No really, I wanted to smash his head against a wall and stab the idiot juice out of it.

If you have talent why would you EVER sacrifice it for shitty music like that? Lifehouse is one of the worst bands to ever come out of the post-grunge era and believe me, grunge sucked so post-grunge doesn't have much of a future. However there are those idiots and stupid girls who like that shit but it can only go so far. You have to make a decision at some point-
Do you want a paycheck for a month
or
Do you want to be original and be able to look yourself in the mirror?

The only bands that make it big and are remembered are those that make it big on their own terms. They play their style and don't sell out.
This isn't a rap about the SOBs. This is just about shitty music ingeneral. I saw the kid's profile today and just thought about how fucking stupid he is to be caught up in that dumb shit.
1. Music should always be fun
2. It's always changing and expanding but don't forget about the past
3. Dont copy a fucking shitty ass band to begin with- make YOUR OWN FUCKING STYLE.

They won't make it big. The moron is majoring in accounting. He'll need it.
