Day 23: Should I be worried about this?

Oct 24, 2006 16:18

So, back in March I went skiing for the first time, and because I got cocky right at the end and decided I wanted to ski the big hill on my first day, I was injured, though not seriously. (Most of you have probably heard this story, but if not, you should ask, it's a pretty funny one.)  About a week later, I decided maybe I should go and get X-ray'd, just in case.  Naturally, the company that I worked for at the time had just changed insurance providers, so I didn't have my card yet (Murphy's law states: Thou shalt not sustain injury while carrying a valid insurance card), and it was decided that I would file the claim independently later.

So, of course I forgot, and only in the last week or so did I finally file the claim, even though it's been months since I was actually covered by this insurance.  I was covered at the time, I have a letter saying so.  So, no problem, right?  But a corollary of the above-quoted Murphy's law is that no insurance claim shall ever be paid on the first try.  I have a voicemail now from someone affiliated with the insurance company telling me that I have to call them back with XYZ reference number before they will even think about processing my claim.

But that's not the part that worries me.  What concerns me is that the affiliate company, which is apparently some sort of screening step before claims actually go to UHC, is called Eugenics.     :-/   Something about that makes me a little uneasy....
