CHARACTER
NAME: Motoko Kusanagi
FANDOM: Ghost in the Shell
TIMELINE PERIOD: The three Ghost in the Shell movies, Ghost in the Shell Season 1 and Ghost in the Shell Season 2 as soon as I can find it. Motoko might become more like the manga if/when she settles in to Rivelata. Not that it helps, but I have also seen/played Motoko from the Playstation 2 game "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex".
Timeline wise, I will be picking Motoko out from the end of Ghost in the Shell Season 1 from a mission that does not actually exist (the mission itself not being important to her character).
BACKGROUND: Major Motoko Kusanagi is a full cyborg employed by Public Security Section 9. She is under the command of Chief Aramaki and is squad leader. She is prides herself in professional work. She is very aware of her own skills and the skills of others and will assign her members accordingly. Unlike Batou, she does not try to push the limits of others. Although she is professional in her work, she can occasionally be found having a little fun be it a snappy one-liner to announce her invisible presence (resulting in the classic "Who's there?!") before ripping the room apart with her M-23.
Motoko usually keeps her personal life separate (if not shielded) from work. Batou seems to be the only one she'll open up to. There isn't much of this side of Motoko that is hinted at from the series and even less from the movies. Both fortunately and unfortunately, Motoko's personal life will have to stem a bit from imagination.
It is rumored that Motoko's personal life is much more intimate and sexual (and from that I would assume also more open) in the manga, though I have not read them to confirm. Her personality outside of work has only been hinted at once in the series which shows what we assume is her house and two girls roughly the same age as her asleep on her bed. This goes along with Motoko's rumored bisexuality which is also said to be much more pronounced in the manga. Since there are not too many hints on how she handles her personal life in the movies or series, I will probably use a little bit of Motoko's description from the manga after she settles in to Rivelata.
Motoko's skills are those that you'd expect to find in a highly skilled, government funded, money-is-not-a-problem cyborg. She has enhanced sight and hearing, quick reflexes, advanced trajectory computing, precision aim, advanced hand-to-hand combat, rugged durability, cyborg strength, high intelligence, thermoptic camouflage, excellent memory.. many things you'd find in a cyborg. Compared to other cyborgs of her type (Batou specifically), she is considerably better at hand-to-hand combat/martial arts, better in weapon accuracy, but weaker in strength.
Ghost in the Shell is founded on a realistic vision of the future. She does not rely on outside sources of energy or magic to do what she does. (For example, you can't jump 50 feet if you don't have the necessary modification to do so.)
SAMPLES (Note: I expect these to be my first two posts. These are not the complete posts, but clips from the original planned posts both of which can be found on my user page.)
THIRD PERSON:
She clumsily pushed herself to her side in time to see two guards walk away from her. "Damn, she's heavy." one says to the other.
Her short, purple hair waved in a salty wind as she stumbled to her feet, leaning against the nearest post. Her eyes quickly scanned every face around her. No one has prosthetics? What’s this interference? Where am I? Having visually inspected everyone in sight, she turned to the boat and in doing so finds that she has regained slight control over her legs. Wooden boats? Such old technology. The crowd of people around her seemed just as confused as she was.
What happened? The last I remember, I was on route in an A-2 loadout with Batou and Togusa. Memory is.. She paused. Damn. Corrupt.
As the crowd from the boat thinned out, she made out her surroundings for the first time. It took her by slight surprise. How is this possible?
She reached for her M-23 and looked it over. Damaged. No ammo. She put it away and reached for her pistol. At least you're okay. Two clips. She looked back at her surroundings. I have a feeling it won't be very easy to find ammo around here.
Feeling her pistol in hand finally gave her slight comfort in her surroundings She slumped to the ground.
Stay focused, Motoko.
FIRST PERSON:
[ooc: Motoko has a system commonly known as a voice com that allows her to communicate through thought to other Section 9 members. Currently, there is no one to receive it. She is just talking to the static.]
This certainly is an interesting journal. I can't see anything special, but the guards tell me I can communicate to the rest of Rivelata with it.
...Rivelata. I don't have any memory of it. Maybe it's hidden somewhere in the archives.
I sat there for a while watching the floods of confused looking people off the boat. How long has this been happening? I wonder if anyone else from Section 9 will show up. Hmm..
[through her voice com] "Batou.."
[Motoko drops the book]
It heard that?!
[She slams the book shut]
NOTES:
Motoko has what might be seen as an unfair list of skills. So as not to Marry Sue, I plan to damage her M-23 (how easily it can be fixed will depend on how Motoko needs to be ballanced and how easy it will be to find ammunition. The easier it is to find ammunition, the harder the gun becomes to fix). This will hopefully give Motoko something to work towards. I have also given her some damage to her body. The damage should be slightly time consuming, but should be fixed easily. After that, calibration to Rivelata may a few sparring sessions to hone in on.
I also plan to give her the service pistol she has with two clips. These clips will have either 7, 9, or 12 bullets depending on how powerful the gun is. The gun does not appear to be of high caliber, but seems to be fairly powerful regardless. I am thinking 9 bullets per clip for a total of 18 bullets. Motoko would use these in only the most dire of situations unless she was able to find a source of ammunition.
Motoko can take a good beating, but she isn't invincible and she has a very limited ability to heal. I'd like to request that Motoko is more resistant to damage than one might expect on the grounds that no one wants to deal with a beat up, one armed Motoko and I doubt Rivelata would have any replacement parts for her. Electrical attacks may have the ability to temporarily disable what it hits.
I would also like to keep her Thermoptic Camouflage. There doesn't seem to be a limit to how much she can use it. Like her broken M-23, I would most likely only use it to balance her out and for times when her relatively unique ability would be needed. Motoko does not constantly rely on this ability and I would not expect her to do so in Rivelata either. There was a previous Motoko at Rivelata who also used this ability.
