Day 10 - fandom hated it, I loved it
Kevin Lynch
Honorable mentions: Elle obviously, but I've already written so much on her; Jordan Todd, but I don't think she's really hated that much in fandom, at least not that I've seen; Haley Hotchner, but I don't especially love her so much as have a more charitable opinion of her than most of fandom (although granted, it doesn't take much).
So I was stuck on this one for a long time. I thought this would be an easy question because it's about an unpopular opinion and who am I. But the truth is, it was actually quite difficult, as I was searching for a topic that would inspire some good meta and the choices listed in honorable mentions didn't really fit the question (except for Elle, but I've already written so much on her). So I'm left with good ole Kevin Lynch--although unfortunately, there really isn't enough on him for meta.
I will say, however, that he's the most interesting and memorable of the main cast's love interests, aside from Haley. I might be biased because he's played by Xander Nick Brendon, and while I have mixed feelings on Xander, I do love me some NB. From what we see of Kevin, he's a lovable geek. You might say he's the guy version of Garcia, but not as colorful, yet he still manages to have more presence and charisma than Will despite less screentime or narrative weight. He and Garcia definitely have the healthiest relationship of all the main characters, at least that we see onscreen. I do not include JJ and Will here because we are told they're supposed to be happy together and harmonious but we aren't shown any evidence to support that (as discussed in the comments to day 8, JJ does not exactly look happy to see Will when he comes to NYC, nor does she seem particularly comfortable with the speed at which the relationship is moving). But we see most of Kevin and Garcia's relationship as it develops, and it's very sweet and loving, with a clear respect and mutual affection there. Although he's primarily used as comic relief, Kevin's scenes (particularly with Garcia) add an element of much-needed lightness to the show without any forced "moments" or OOC behavior from the regulars. *cough*seasonsix*cough* I hope to see more of him in the future.
