There are a lot of ways to say I love you. Fucking is the fastest.

He makes her border on violent sometimes. Hell, he makes her plain violent sometimes, but he just doesn't listen. Or he doesn't pay attention. Or he's too worried he's going to say something wrong that he doesn't say it at all.

She's pretty damn sure she started this fight on purpose. A girl could only wait so long you know? And she'd been waiting coming on four years now and if Mary had one vice, one stubborn character flaw she couldn't fix? It was that she was impatient. It was one of her biggest faults and one of her greatest strengths, the way she'd go after everything because she couldn't bear waiting for it to come after her.

But with John though, she was patient. She let him lead. Sure she took control sometimes and she was pretty sure he didn't mind it, but for the most part, she let John set the pace. And she was glad for it, she loved him.

Even now.

Elton Ridge is the prettiest place in the world, she thinks, and it upsets her a little that she's started a fight him with here. But she's sick of waiting. They had a picnic and he brought her flowers and it was the loveliest day of the year and she's sitting alone on a rock a few yards away from where they'd set up the tent mid-argument.

She's looking out at the slightly ruffled lake when she hears him behind her. She doesn't look up because she's still mad -- or if she was honest with herself, disappointed. She can feel him stop behind her and she waits for him to move forward again but he doesn't.

She frowns slightly and turns, unfolding her legs and slipping down the rock to face him. He's on the ground, damp grass already making a stain on the knee of one pant leg and she laughs a little, raising her hand to her mouth. She's very nearly shocked and she winces at the first words out of her mouth.

"I fucking love you, John Winchester."

He laughs, loud and happy and hers, and looks up at her with that big grin of his. "Marry me?" He looks for a second that he's scared she'll say no and she bats him lightly on the shoulders as she kneels down in front of him, scooting forward on her knees until she's pressed against him.

"Finally."
