A bitch session

Oct 03, 2006 11:03

Okay, so I join the PTA with a bunch of women who belong to all the churches in town. So far so good we agree we have common ideas for the community and all is good, only have had one fundy moment and it was settled fine.

SO, I have been working on this fall fundraiser that is centered around Samhain/halloween. I have a DJ booked who donated the majority of his time only charging us a minimal amount. Have on my own obtained several hundreds of dollars in raffle prizes. To be told by the Co-president of the PTA that she was called into to the Pricipals office today and informed that the day we picked just wouldn't work because they were not given enough notice.

HELLO, she has sat through the last 2 PTA meetings, never voiced a concern or gave warning the date might not work. The "Use" form has been setting on her desk for almost 3 weeks now. Her other excuse is that a staff member has to be on sight and she has plans that weekend and so do the custodians. NOW the custodians are the ones who pitched the bitch because they don't want to work on a weekend. These are the same people trying to raise money to buy a new playground for the school, who the PTA gave a $2000.00 donation to. WHO Tommyknocker because of me being involved, my wonderful boss organized an event that raised $1200.00 this summer. I am so mad at the inability for people to find their voices and be open. To have community if it works in a convenient time frame for them.

This fundraiser is the same weekend I have my annual investors meeting, which means I am working that weekend, and doing the fundraiser. And have been invited to 3 Samhain rituals/parties and have found a way to make them all work.

The PTA members on my committee last night really wanted to redirect the funds of our event to help purchase and install a security camera and door sytem in the front of the school. Especially after the events of the last week. Baily is directly 40 miles from here. Yet the school faculty that wants to "promote" community and teach kids how community works together is the worst at it. I am very disappointed and very PISSED off.

We have a group of members this year that want to go outside the box and expand the little things PTA provides to really bring som inovative and practical programs in the school. WE have agreed already for this year to bring in and establish a foriegn language program, starting with Spanish, but over the next two or three years other languages as well. We are going to do an instrument drive and try to establish a inexpensive rent program for kids whose parents cannot afford instuments. The PTA alone funds the schools Science Fair. But is seems like the school is happy with Harper Valley PTA remaining in the glow of the 70's and not taking the school further.

BUT as this is my little venting and bitch session, I am writing my "concerns" and "disappointment" to the new District Superintendent. And if I have to the editorials.

So thanks for letting me vent. My only other disappointment is that our wonderful Full Moon ritual falls on the same day and time as the ANTI-Columbus Rally.
