just watched a documentary on the ALF (animal liberation front) that made me sick to my stomach and made me cry but i couldnt turn it off.
http://www.uncagedfilms.com/behind_the_mask.html while their tactics may be rather "extreme" in nature, i was shocked to learn that they were listed as one of the nations top terrorist groups:
"ALF was named as a terrorist threat by the United States Department of Homeland Security in January 2005. In hearings held May 18, 2005, before a Senate panel, officials of the FBI and ATF stated that "violent animal rights extremists and eco-terrorists now pose one of the most serious terrorism threats to the nation," adding that "of particular concern are the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and the Earth Liberation Front (ELF)."
The Southern Poverty Law Center, who take a critical view of the ALF, nonetheless criticised the DHS for concentrating on the Animal and Earth Liberation Fronts rather than white supremacists. They wrote that "for all the property damage they have wreaked, eco-radicals have killed no one - something that cannot be said of the white supremacists and others who people the American radical right."
i recommend seeing it, whether you agree with their ideals, tactics, and behavior or not. i do warn, however, that even though there is less than 5 cumulative minutes of actual violence/exploitation shown, those 5 minutes are what will stay with you, understandably so.
