Oscar Nomination Predictions

Jan 09, 2007 20:16

I wont get into any detail about my life, but trust me I really hope to soon. But things are going very good for me, I just dont want to jinx it ya know??? Ok, so the Golden Globe nods are out so I figured I should make my predictions on the big ones now

Best Picture:

Dreamgirls
The Departed
Letters to Iwo Jima
The Queen
United 93

So a couple movies are gonna get screwed over here. The Pursuit of Happyness, Borat and Pan's Labyrinth are all in need of a nod. Happyness is probably a little bit too much of Oscar bait and the academy will look right past it. Borat may be TOO new of a genre to reward with a nomination in the biggest category and Pan's Labrynth is going to get the foreign film thing so they wont feel the need to recognize it twice. The Departed is going to win pretty much hands down. Unless the academy people are still in love with Clint Eastwood

Best Actor:
Will Smith - Pursuit of Happyness
Forrest Whitaker - Last King of Scotland
Peter O'Toole - Venus
Sasha Baron Cohen - Borat
Leonardo DiCaprio - The Departed

Ryan Gosling is going to be the one screwed. Half Nelson should have been release far later in the year to recognize his talent. He will be forgotten. DiCaprio was nominated for 2 Golden Globes in the same category while Gosling was passed over. DiCaprio will take the last spot on here. I predict a nod for Cohen because the job is hard not to recognize and the buzz/hype for the movie just wont go away. This award is going to go to either Forrest Whitaker or Will Smith when the time comes. Everyone else is fighting for a nomination.

Best Actress
Helen Mirren - The Queen
Meryl Streep - The Devil Wears Prada
Penelope Cruz - Volver
Kate Winslet - Little Children
Maggie Gyllenhaal - Sherrybaby

Helen Mirren is going to win. No doubt. I would love them to get it right this year and nominate Maggie Gyllenhaal. Sadly i believe they will nominate Judi Dench again  for a movie no one has ever heard of.

Best Supporting Actor
Ben Affleck - Hollywoodland
Jack Nicholson - The Departed
Eddie Murphy - Dream Girls
Brad Pitt - Babel
Alan Arkin - Little Miss Sunshine

It is a 3 way race between Murphy, Affleck and Nicholson in my mind. Affleck would be a great come back story, Eddie Murphy is the popular choice and Jack Nicholson is the best. Really up to who you saw most recently.

Best Supporting Actress
Jennifer Hudson - Dream Girls
Rinko Kikuchi - Babel
Abigail Breslin - Little Miss Sunshine
Catherine O'Hara - For Your Consideration
Cate Blanchett - Notes on a Scandal

Hudson has it in the bag. this is typically a weak category and this year is no different. it would be cool to see Breslin get nominated though
