Seen in the window of our local McDonalds today in town.
Me, mildly interested: Huh, I wonder what flavour it is.
Emma: Hehe, Mean and Green, like Hulk juice. Mmmm, Hulky.
Me: I MUST HAVE ONE.
~ at the checkout a few minutes later ~
Me: What flavour is it?
Checkout girl: Um.
Other checkout person: Um, we don't really know, it doesn't say.
Cue about five McDonalds staff trying to describe what it tastes like. The things that stick in my mind are 'tangy' and 'a bit like V (energy drink)'. Both those things sound okay to me.
The chick in the manager shirt cuts through the crap by putting a tiny bit in a cup for me to try.
Me: OH IT'S SOUR APPLE.
Checkout girl: *is relieved, probably because she has something to tell people who ask her now*
Me: I WILL HAVE ONE LARGE ONE OF THOSE, PLEASE.
Verdict: DELICIOUS.
If you like sour apple flavoured things, like Sour Monkey Vodka Green Apple flavour, or things like sour gummi worms, you will most likely like this drink. If you like sour citrussy things, like caipiroskas, then you might like this too. If you like V, you might like it, as there is a note in the flavour that is V-like. Basically, if you're a sensory-seeker that likes cold drinks on the tangy side of the spectrum, this drink is for you. If you're someone who likes sour stuff and is regularly disappointed by things labelled 'sour' not being sour enough, or at all (Sugarpova sweets, I'm looking at you) then this drink is for you.
I found it in Bathurst McDonalds, in the Central West of NSW. That means it's probably statewide, but McDonalds can be weird about that kind of thing; I know Newcastle McDonalds franchises used to be where they'd test everything out ahead of everywhere else. They had McFlurrys there for about two years before Sydney did, so I don't know if the Central West is a similar kind of district.
