Title: Copycat
Author:
iamshadow
Fandom: White Collar
Pairings: Gen
Rating: PG
Word Count: 10,318 inc. footnotes
Summary: Peter busts into a dingy apartment, expecting to find the artist behind a forgery racket. That's exactly what he finds, but the artist in question isn't anything like the sort of person he expected to find, and rather than having answers, he's got a far bigger mystery to solve. An AU where things are very different, but the important things are the same.
Content: AU, kid!Neal, kid!Mozzie, child exploitation, mentions of child sexual assault and trafficking, not as dark as those last few things make it sound.
A/N: This story started life as a fragment I wrote last year, just the first couple of scenes. I got as far as getting it betaed, and then promptly forgot it even existed. I rediscovered it in my Google Docs last week, and wham! 9,000+ word story.

The footnotes are long (hence them having to go in a post of their own) but full of information that might help the average reader understand references and issues that are only touched on in passing in the story itself. Trying to work them into the narrative would have been awkward and slowed things down, but I didn't want to leave those things hanging, as some of them are pretty obscure.

Many thanks, hugs, kisses and seasonal best wishes to
tree00faery and
copperbadge, who both put their hands up to beta for me, even though it's right in the middle of the stupid season.
