Ordered a couple of balls of yarn off eBay to make up the difference in a project I'd run out of yarn for. The yarn is deleted, so Lincraft and Spotlight didn't have it any more. The delivery arrived today... and it's the wrong colourway. Not their fault; mine. I somehow forgot to check that the colourway number was right before I bought it. Found the right colour yarn on an online webstore, and they only accept credit card. And Em's card is the credit enabled card... and it's empty. All the money is in my account. So I've ripped the whole damn project, reduced two and a half inches of ribbing down to one inch, and it should be enough for me to squeak through with the yarn I have. So much bloody drama for a basic project I could have finished five days ago, if I'd had the same gauge as Emma, or finished today if I'd just checked the damned label properly before buying. It should be ready in time for the recipient, but still, it's a pain in the arse.

Finished pic of my Carousel socks is up. Nothing special, just a phone cam pic, but we might take better ones later in the week.

After all that talk of which pattern I was going to choose for my new Noir yarn... I've gone with a different one altogether. Still a Knitty pattern, but yeah. I'm making
Twisted with the Aqua Mix colourway. It's got the nice rows of single knit/slip stitches against the purl background like Outside In, but without the strictures the bias in Outside In puts on the stretchiness. There is a bias section, but it's right down in the foot, not the whole length of the sock. I knit a couple of inches of cuff last night. This colourway is crazy, it reminds me of KoolAid dye colours. It's a fluorescent mess, and I kind of love it.
There's a progress pic on my Ravelry. *
The leatherette case for my phone arrived today, and it's awesome. Perfect fit, love the colour. All the spaces are in exactly the right spots for my buttons and the camera. I was a bit dubious what the quality would be like, given that it was super cheap and from a Hong Kong supplier, but it was well worth the tiny cost. And it folds into a stand, like an iPad case, so it's propped up in front of me right now.

You'll Find the Bright Places by
BlackEyedGirlThere's a trope for characters being de-aged, and this is a good treatment of it. What makes it awesome is the way the action is intercut with Coulson's rather dry-witted debriefing to Fury of the events. The kids are pretty true to their adult characters, too, which is hard to achieve. Writing kids is hard, full stop, and the author does well with them here.
The Undone Universe by
TeykeI haven't read much dark!fic for this fandom, and this is an exquisite example of dark!fic at its best. It's got alternate realities, apocalypses, unrequited love, missed opportunities, insanity, grief, gods, and fate, and it all starts out with Tony Stark, caught on the other side of the Portal, wandering the Nine Realms looking for a way home. The series is ongoing, and I'm interested to see where the author takes it.
Tomorrow Belongs To Me by
valtyrThis is a fantastic alternative to the canon, a different way the Avengers come together. It's long, plotty, and the character development is fab. There's a big, but not excessive cast of familiar faces, both good and bad. Steve's gradual acclimatisation to the future is a particular highlight of the story, and another is Tony getting to be properly smart in a very high pressure situation, which is always fun.
There are heaps more that I've read in the last week or so, so check out
Avengers rec list for other good stories. The ones listed here are just the highlight reel; the others I've added are all awesome too!
