...And then I randomly went to Sydney

Yup. Just got in the car and drove down there and stayed for a couple of days. And it was a good trip!

* Went down on the excuse of helping
alisso pick up her new car, the replacement for the one she totalled on the way back from Hill End. Her new car is an Astra, as the old one was, but this one is a convertible, shiny black, with RED LEATHER HEATED SEATS. I didn't get to ride in it, but I did get to look impressed with it from a discreet distance.

* I got to meet my brother's fiancée. Not only is she nice, sensible and good-humoured, but she apparently seems NOT CRAZY. Yes, I know, I'm blinking about it too. That doesn't counteract the fact that hey, they're getting married in UNDER TWO MONTHS when they've known each other less than one month, but I'm not so bothered as I was. If the ENORMOUS TRAIN WRECK doesn't happen, they may actually be able to make it work. At least they seem to be planning things sensibly, like work and house and kids (in that order).

* I MET MY NEPHEW! I got to hold Lucien and feed him, and he's adorable and oh-so-tiny. I can't get over how impossible it was that my friend and her husband made a baby. Human biology is so amazing. And I'm really glad I got to meet him when he's so tiny, because he's going to grow so quickly over the next few months. If we lived close, I'd be babysitting whenever they'd let me.

* Another yay, Emma's camera flash stopped working while we were down there. Which is a bit bad because we didn't get to take photos of the baby, but good because we were able to put it into the service centre on the way home, and it's probably going to cost less than we expected. Also, they're fixing up a couple of other little niggling problems with it. One is a recall component, which gets done for free, and the other was a little but annoying problem which can lead to other problems later, so best to get it done now.

* Pippin was incredibly good for most of the time we were down there. He was excellent with all the people he met, both new people and people he knew a little, and we were able to leave him at mum's while we went to visit the new baby, and he DIDN'T MISBEHAVE OR BARK. \o/ Most of his barking lately seems to be excitement related rather than stress related, which is a good thing. It's annoying, but it shows how much more settled and self-assured he's getting. When we have to board him in September, it's going to be nowhere near as stressful for him or us as it was a few months ago.

Back home now, and so happy to be home. I never sleep or eat as well when I'm away. Yes, I am happy, even though it's FREEZING. Good thing the sun will be up in an hour or so.

wtf, friends, family, alisso, pippin, emma
