Merry-ish

I couldn't find an assignment today for like the second time ever, so I'm home. It's really my fault. I've gotten really picky about the jobs I will take lately, and I've been sticking to schools with a lesser possibility of me being shot or spit on (spat on? Spat on, I think). Silly me.

I visited Tallahassee over the weekend, saw some people I like, ate some food, sang some Christmas carols, and drank a free mimosa. Not bad. Also over the weekend, all of my recommendation people submitted their letters and I turned in my first grad school application, loosening the panic knot in my belly. Now I just have to wait for the bosses of the school to decide if they want to play with me or not, and in the meanwhile all I can do is forget about it until next spring, when I will hopefully get a nice surprise in the mail. Think lovely thoughts, Peter Pan told me. That, and allying with the Indians will help you battle the pirates. He's been right once.

I woke up with a back spasm this morning, and I think it might be from leaning against an imaginary tree for my silly play's press shots last night, something I am apparently terrible at because the photo people kept yelling at me. At one point the large photographer woman grabbed me and forcibly leaned me against her back, screaming "FEEL THE TREE!" the entire time. People are insane. Sometimes I feel like they are more comfortable being insane around me than others (no one else got physically harassed during photos). I guess I just have one of those faces.

Currently Reading: The Poisonwood Bible (Kingsolver). Good so far, and very Faulkner-y. I know it was an Oprah book, don't care.

I'm excited about Christmas. I'm even more excited about lunch right now though, so later.
