After the shittiness of Delta Force 2, I decided to watch something fun for once. What's more fun than The Muppets?
The Muppet Movie

This is basically an origin story for The Muppets. Kermit leaves his home in the swamp and travels to Hollywood in search of stardom. Along the way Kermit picks up a ragtag band of friends and tangles with and unscrupulous restaurateur who wants him to be a spokes-frog for his fried frogs leg stands. Throw in some catchy songs and a ton of celebrity cameos and you have a great movie. Seriously, if you don't love the Muppets you're dead inside.
This was a breath of fresh air after my disappointing previous review. If you don't get a little choked up during the Rainbow Connection song then there's something wrong with you.
The Great Muppet Caper

Kermit and Fozzie play twin brother (no, really) reporters who head to London in search for a scoop that could save their careers. Gonzo is their photographer. They follow the trail of a diamond robbery, the victim of which just happens to have Miss Piggy as a receptionist. Pig meets frog and the rest is history. The songs aren't quite as catchy in this one. Still lots of celebrity cameos, mind you. Love the cameo from Peter Falk (y'know, Columbo) who tries to console Kermit in the park.
Muppet Treasure Island

Obviously, this is a retelling of Treasure Island with Muppets. It's surprisingly dark for a movie with the Muppets too. I remember seeing this at the cinema as a kid and found parts of it quite scary. My only gripe is that there's not enough Animal. He and the rest of the band pretty much get relegated to the background. Still a great movie. Tim Curry as Long John Silver is delightfully hammy.
I recommend all these movies. If I had to chose a favourite I'd go for The Muppet Movie. It's the funniest out of the lot and the Muppets I like best actually do something important (hurray for a giant Animal!) I may review The Muppets Take Manhattan at a later date, but I'm afraid I have to work through a backlog of new purchases first. wish me luck. I'm not looking forward to many of these. Why do I punish myself by purchasing shitty movies?
