Thanks to Jenna for recommending this movie, I really enjoyed it.
Navarre and Isabeau are star-crossed lovers played by Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer, respectively. Unfortunately, an evil bishop is in love with Isabeau as well and he curses the pair. Navarre is cursed to become a wolf during the night while Isabeau becomes a hawk during the day, meaning that they will forever be separated. They seek the help of a young thief named Phillipe the Mouse (Mather Broderick) to find a way to change the pair back.
At first sight this movie wasn't necessarily something I'd choose to watch myself, but it was well worth the suggestion. The prog rock soundtrack rather clashed with the medieval setting, but I didn't let it get me down. Michelle Pfeiffer is lovely, and Rutger Hauer is suitably badass with his cool sword and double crossbow. Special mention must go to Alfred Molina as Cezar the wolf hunter, who gets a rather nasty death when he falls headfirst into one of his own traps.
A very enjoyable fantasy film, if a little sappy in places. Then again, who doesn't like a little bit of sappiness every now and then?
