Movie Reviews: X-Men- Apocalypse

Dec 28, 2016 21:25

Charles Xavier has reopened his school for young mutants with the help od Hank McCoy. Magneto has settled down to a peaceful family life in Poland. Mystique is continuing her mission to save mutants in trouble. Meanwhile, an ancient and powerful mutant known as Apocalypse awakens in Egypt and is preparing to usher in the end of the world.

I don't understand what everybody's problem is with this movie. Sure, it isn't perfect, but I don't think it is as bad as people have been saying. That being said, the movie was disappointing in some respects. I was excited that some of my favourite X-Men were going to appear, but most of them were just there. I think that Jubilee only spoke about twice and didn't even do anything important to the plot. Thankfully, Psylocke fared slightly better as she actually served some purpose. She was pretty impressive in the final battle too.

One thing that I do agree with everybody else on is the fact that Mystique seems to overshadow everybody else. Maybe this is down to the fact that Jennifer Lawrence is getting a bit over-exposed now and everybody is getting tired of her. At least she had the good grace to sit out of most of the final battle.

To tell you the truth, the movie had me when I saw on-set pictures of Nightcrawler wearing a Thriller jacket. Everybody's favourite fuzzy elf got plenty to do as well, so I wasn't disappointed with him.

I quite enjoyed the Wolverine cameo as well, even if it was shore-horned in. His Weapon-X rampage was disappointingly bloodless though. Hopefully that will all change in the upcoming R-Rated Logan movie. You can't have a movie starring a mutant whose pain power is stabbing people without there being blood.

Three and a half pointy hats.
