Movie Reviews: Zootopia

Judy Hopps is an idealistic young bunny who has just left home to become a police officer in the big city of Zootopia. Much to her disappointment, Judy finds herself being assigned the job of meter maid. However, things are soon looking up when Judy con artist fox Nick Wilde, who also happens to be the only witness to the latest of a string of missing mammals case.

You can understand how excited I was about this movie when the trailer first came out. It was a buddy cop movie in the vein of 48 Hrs with talking animals. How could that be anything but awesome? There was even an angry police captain! It turns out that I wasn't the only one that got a kick out of the movie as it ended up making so much money that it actually managed to stop people banging on about Frozen.

The characters were all excellent. So excellent that it would be impossible for me to pick out a favourite. Yes, even the villain was adorable. You would have thought that I would be sick of the scene with the DNV staffed entirely with sloths, what with it being one of the main parts of the trailer, but the scene still managed to make me chuckle.

I don't really go for applying dark backstories to these sort of things, but this movie did bring up a few interesting questions for me. Where are all the primates? What about the birds and the reptiles? To they live in separate cities? I can see the birds living in a city up in the sky. There is plenty of scope for sequels or a spin-off TV series, so maybe those questions will be explained at a later date. As I said, the movie made a load of money so it would be silly of Disney if they didn't capitalise on the need for sequels.

Four pointy hats.
