Movie Reviews: Batman Unlimited- Animal Instincts

The Penguin forms a team of animal-themed villains along with Cheetah, Killer Croc, Man-Bat and Silverback. They are also assisted in their crimes with a trio of robotic animals. If Batman is to stop the Penguin's team on villains then he must work together with his own team of heroes.

Those of you that are dismayed with the present state of DC's animated movies might just find this one right up their street. It is a return to the more lighter tone of the earlier DC animated movies. The recent DC animated movies (Assault on Arkham notwithstanding) were so unrelentingly grim that I found them impossible to watch.

I was happy to see that the Penguin was getting a chance to be the criminal mastermind this time around instead of churning out the Joker yet again. The Joker is so overused nowadays that I was glad to see another one of Batman's rogues get a go at being the big bad.

I am always happy to see Cheetah show up in something as she is probably my favourite Wonder Woman villain. I was surprised to see somebody as obscure as Silberback make an appearance. At first I thought he was just a cheap substitute for Gorilla Grodd, but it turns out he is a Blue Beetle villain. Well, it's not as if DC has a shortage of gorilla villains.

Most of Batman's team consisted of members of the Bat-Family. The Flash and Green Arrow were the other two. I guess this was an attempt to cash-in on the success of their own TV shows. Although, this movie might have been aimed at a younger age group than the one that The Flash and Arrow cater for.

Three pointy hats.

Next time: Avengers- Age of Ultron
