Movie Reviews: X-Men- Days of Future Past

Nov 11, 2014 15:01

In the near future, mutants have been hunted almost to extinction by killer robots known as Sentinels. With nowhere else to run, Professor X decides to send one of the X-Men back in time to prevent the events that would lead to the creation of the Sentinels.

If you thought that X-Men: First Class was good, then just wait until you see this one. It takes the X-Men from that film and throws in the older X-Men as well. People have often complained that Wolverine has hogged the spotlight, but this time it is Mystique that gets the most screen time. It was good to see Hugh Jackman working with the X-Men. He is probably my favourite version of Wolverine. Movie Wolverine is much less overexposed than comics Wolverine.

It was great to see Patrick Stewart back as the older Professor X. He even gets a scene with his younger self. It was a pity that we didn't get a scene between the two versions of Magneto, because that would have been cool.

Many people complained that this film's version of Quicksilver looked dumb, and I have to admit that I was one of them. It turns out that Quicksilver stole the entire film. It was a pity that we never got to see more from him. He is recruited to bust out Magneto and is quickly shooed away when things start to get serious again. I hope that Aaron Taylor-Johnson's version will be just as memorable.

It was cool seeing some new characters as well. Blink was probably the one that sticks in the memory the most. This is down to her unique look and the cool way she uses her powers. Then again, the other new characters were X-Men that I didn't really care for in the first place. I guess I would have cared more when the future X-Men died horribly if they actually had any decent screentime.

Those concerns end up being redundant as the X-Men are successful in their mission and the Sentinel program is shut down. The events of X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine never happened, so that is perfectly fine with me. Cyclops and Jean Grey are alive again and we don't get that crappy version of Deadpool. I just hope that the upcoming Ryan Reynolds Deadpool movie makes up for it. I can't wait for Channing Tatum's Gambit in the next film, X-Men: Apocalypse. Gambit might be one of my favourites, but I just hope that we get to see a new version of Nightcrawler too. Who doesn't love the Fuzzy Elf?
