Movie Reviews: Batman- The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1

It has been ten years since Bruce Wayne has retired from being Batman. Gotham City has been plagued by a violent gang known as the Mutants. After encountering several members of the gang in the same alley where his parents were killed, Bruce decides to resurrect Batman and continue his war on crime. He is even aided by a new Robin, 13 year old Carrie Kelly.

I don't know why it took me so long to check out this animated adaption of the famous graphic novel. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of grim and gritty comic books. That being said, Batman can get away with being grim and gritty because he's Batman. That's why I didn't like the Flashpoint movie. Well, that and because it ruined the Flash for me.

Peter Weller makes a pretty decent Batman. His voice isn't as deep and growly as other versions, but at least he doesn't sound as silly as Christian Bale's Batman. Keep an eye out during the racing scene near the beginning and Bruce is wearing a crash helmet that looks not dissimilar to a certain other lawman that Weller previously played.

I loved this film's version of the Batmobile. It was basically a great big tank. The fight scenes were pretty badass too. Batman barely survived his first fight with the Mutant leader because he is trying to match brute strength. Bruce is an old man while the Mutant leader is in his prime. The second fight goes much better. Bruce uses his brains this time and takes down the Mutant leader with surgical precision.

Three and a half pointy hats.
