People are dying in mysterious and bloody circumstances, and the authorities have no clue as to what is causing the deaths. That is until health inspector Mike Brady comes on the scene and starts poking around. Brady comes to the conclusion that killer slugs are responsible for the killings, but nobody believes him. Brady discovers that the town is built upon area that used to be a toxic waste dump and the waste has mutated the slugs, making them grow to huge size and giving them a taste for human flesh.
Don't go into this film expecting any interesting human characters. Most of them are so wooden that the slugs easily overshadow them. The actors do little more than rattle of the tiresome dialogue while it is left to the slugs to munch on people.
The film managed to serve up one memorable scene as a poor sap who had previously dined upon a salad containing a hidden slug comes down with a rather severe headache. You can see the majority of the scene in the trailer anyway. Everything else just seems clumsy, from the directing to the music that just seems out of place.
The film also seems rather mean-spirited. Nice characters end up as slug bait while the nasty ones get away scot-free. Take the poor girl who is almost raped in the woods as an example. She ends up getting munched on by the slugs while the would-be rapist gets away. Nobody gets their comeuppance.
The heroes spend an inordinate amount of time trying to come up with a chemical to kill the slugs when they could have saved a load of time by just using salt. It is almost as if the film is set in an alternate universe in which nobody knows what a slug is. Thankfully, there is a scientists on hand to explain every little detail about slugs in case the viewers are too stupid to know these things for themselves.
People who like these sort of bad films will probably get a kick out of this one, but this isn't for me. I prefer films that are actually good. Two pointy hats.
