Movie Reviews: Thor- The Dark Word

Mar 03, 2014 19:49

When Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is possessed by an ancient evil, and Malekith the Dark Elf (Christopher Eccleston) attacks Asgard looking for the source of Jane's possession, Thor (Chris Helmsworth) must team up with his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to stop this new evil. Can Loki be trusted though?

I will try to make this review more eloquent than the one I did when I went to see the film at the cinema. Hopefully this review will be something other than me going 'AAAAAAUGHH! TOM HIDDLESTON!!'

I obviously don't need to say who stole the film again, just like he did in the first film and The Avengers. I did feel that the main villain of the piece, Malekith, was rather under-used. I believe this was because many of his scenes were cut in order to give more attention to Loki. To tell you the truth, I'm perfectly fine with that. I never much cared about Malekith any way.

The Warriors Three were rather under-used as well. Hogun came off the worse when he chose to stay behind after the battle of Vanaheim. The relationship between Thor and lady Sif was barely hinted at. I would have liked at least a little tension between her and Jane.

I'm not sure how much Darcy is liked by the fandom as a whole, but I like her. Everything she says or does in this film is comedy gold. The guy she ended up with was rather boring though. Then again, I am one of the people that ships her with Loki (I blame daxcat79!)

Even Heimdall gets a moment to shine when he takes down one of Malekith's ships single-handed. I don't think that it is possible for Idris Elba to play anybody that is any less than badass.

I loved the first post-credits scene, where Volstagg and Sif hand over the Aether to the Collector. Look out for Adam Warlock's pod thingie too. The second post-credits scene was rather boring though. It is just Thor reuniting with Jane and the Jotunheim beast chasing some pigeons.

Four pointy hats.
