Struggling writer Paul Varjack (George Peppard) moves into a New York apartment block and becomes intrigued by his quirky neighbour Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn). Paul is swept up in Holly's carefree lifestyle as she scours the city for a suitable millionaire to marry.
I don't know what made me buy this film on DVD, but I am glad that I did. It is quite possibly one of the most up-lifting films I have ever seen. Just the sort of thing you need if you have had a crappy day.
Audrey Hepburn is wonderful, of course. I defy anyone to watch this film and not fall in love with her. Holly Golightly is such a lovable kook. She even sneaks into Paul's apartment at one point. Not in a creepy way, she's just trying to avoid an unwanted date. I would be perfectly happy to find Audrey Hepburn hiding in my place.
The film is also quite notorious for Mickey Rooney at Holly's Japanese neighbour Mr. Yunioshi. He is one massive Japanese stereotype with yellowface, buck teeth and and thick glasses. Let's not even get started on the silly accent. However, I couldn't help but chuckle slightly at the character. he is so offensive that it becomes funny.
Four pointy hats.
