Movie Reviews: The Batman Vs. Dracula

When the Penguin accidentally resurrects Dracula (thinking that his tomb is full of treasure), the Count begins turning the citizens of Gotham into his undead slaves as an attempt to revive his lost love, Carmilla. If that wasn't worse enough, the Joker crosses paths with Dracula and ends up joining the legions of the undead as well.

As you can probably see, this is a feature length spin-off of the 2004-2008 animated series. I dare say that fans of Batman: The Animated Series hated the new series because fans are like that. I have only seen the first season myself and I thought it wasn't all that bad. I think one problem the fans of the DC Animated Universe was that the makers of Justice League Unlimited were unable to use any Batman characters in the series as they were all being used here.

I liked that the series used the more obscure villains as opposed to keeping on using the Joker. I think the appearance of the new Joker was one of the main problems the fans of the older series had with this one and I sort of agree. My favourite Joker is the one voiced by Mark Hamill.

It appears that this film was based on the Elseworlds Vampire Batman trilogy, but obviously cutting back on all the blood and violence of the books. The film is quite more bloody than the series is was spun-off from. We never actually get to see the vampires bite anybody, but there is a light sprinkling of blood spattered here and there.

During the film Dracula called himself Alucard (subtle!) I am surprised that it took Batman so long to learn the identity of his uninvited party guest. The only way Alucard's true identity could be more obvious was if he called himself Dr. Acula!

If you thought that the Joker was scary the first time around, then you haven't seen Vampire Joker. Brrr!

Three pointy hats.
