Movie reviews: Three Men and a Baby

Aug 10, 2013 17:57

Peter (Tom Selleck), Jack (Ted Danson), and Michael (Steve Guttenberg) are good friends and roommates. One day, their lives are turned upside down when a baby (the result of one of Jack's one-night stands) appears on the doorstep. Jack is out of the country on a film shoot, so his roommates are stuck with the baby. Wackiness ensues as the reluctant bachelors struggled to deal with the new arrival changing poopy nappies and the like. There is also some business with heroin dealers.

The Eighties were a great time for high concept comedies, weren't they? The film starred probably three of the biggest stars of the decade. I'm not ashamed to admit that I have a bit of a man-crush on Tom Selleck (well, his awesome moustache). Ted Danson was also a big star thanks to Cheers. Then there's Steve Guttenberg (remember him?) Try to remember a film from the Eighties that he wasn't in.

The baby, Mary, was cute as a button of course. It was inevitable that the fellows would fall in love with her. I do have a bit of trouble sympathizing with the baby's mother though. She dumps the baby on the doorstep, then turns up later just expecting them to give her back. Things get worse in the sequel when she tries to bugger off to Britain and take Mary with her.

Three and a half pointy hats.
