Scary day at work
First off, the school part of my day was pretty good. Slept through part of my genetics class but that was expected. Ran into jojo at the reitz. He said he's trying to get a few people to go to the night parade this weekend. I said i'd go if anyone else was up for it since i might be in tampa anyway. Let's see what else happened. Had lunch...went to class...oh yeah florida gym had to be evacuated around 3 today so microbiology was canceled. Woo hoo!!! Well actually i wasn't totally sure if it was really canceled, i just didn't go back when i got outside. They were tarring the roof so i think some of the fumes were getting so they had to make everyone leave. I saw firetrucks and police cars so i figured it was ok to go home.
Work scared the shit out of me today. I got there an my class was outside so i got to play too. Olivia had to leave b/c she'd been there since 6:30 that morning. I didn't think much of it b/c i only had 4 kids left anyway. Erika seemed tired b/c she was putting her hands up at me like she wanted me to pick her up so i did. She put her head down and started to go to sleep but i had to put her down b/c mahkia and jakob were pulling their pants down and ripping their diapers off. I told both of them to stop it and told them to pull their pants up. By the time i turned back around, erika had white stuff all over her face and inside her mouth. Her tongue and teeth were coated with what looked like maalox only thicker. I knew she had been sick so i thought it was medicine she'd thrown up. I wasn't sure though so i called the front desk and asked stacy to come down and see. It wasn't her medicine b/c it was kinda chunky and it didn't taste like anything. It had a smell that we weren't sure of either so stacy took her up to tiffany, her mom. About 2 minutes later, tiffany came back into the room and was frantic. She wanted to know what her daughter had eaten and if she needed to call poison control or not. Oh yeah, i forgot to mention that tiffany was one of my supervisors.
I felt so bad. There was my supervisor frantically looking for anything that looked like what was in her daughter's mouth and she started crying. I didn't know what to do. I had the worst feeling in the pit of my stomach. My boss was in tears b/c she didn't know if her daughter had eaten poison or not and me being the only adult in the room at the time didn't have a clue about what it was b/c i didn't see it happen. She left to go look in on erika. By then my other two kids had been picked up and i had to start cleaing up the room. While i was sweeping, i saw little pieces of chalk that someone had stepped on right by the spot where i put erika down. I put some in my mouth and started chewing. It looked just like what i found in erika's mouth so i went to the sick room to tell tiffany. I felt a little better when i saw that erika was playing and smiling like normal. By then she had calmed down and was trying to talk to her daughter (not that a 2 year old can put together any coherent sentence about what she was eating). I still felt so irresponsible about it happening specially since i didn't have that many kids. Me having chalk in my mouth probably didn't make me seem any more responsible or mature.
