I saw the most beautiful moon tonight . . .

The moon is full. Only two nights ago there was a total eclipse. The air has grown chilly as fall is succumbing to the icy caress of winter. Was heading out to my car to fetch the papers I needed to finish my newest English assignment. As I fumbled with my keys to find the right one to unlock my car, I realized I could see them clearly, as if it were noon and not just a few minutes past midnight. I looked up to see that the perfectly full moon was shining brighter than I had ever seen before in all of my memory. The intensity was almost to much, if not for the veil of clouds diffusing the light. They were thin and flat. It felt as if I were at the bottom of a calm pool of water looking up at gigantic, ethereal lily pads. They were so thin that I could still make out the detail of the man on the moon. I decided to stop and lay on the hood of my car, watching the clouds drift across the sky, admiring the beauty. I’m still amazed by the clarity of the night. I swear I could have flown straight up into heaven if I hadn’t remembered that my English paper still needed work. So instead I’m here, recounting this to whomever is reading.

. . . I hope that I can hold on to this image for the rest of my life.
