This post is dedicated to Islam in Russia. Firstly, because I realized that not so many foreigners know that there are large Muslim regions in Russia. As well as a there are regions where most people are Buddhists or shamanists. Secondly, because all my relatives from the mother (mother, grandmother, uncle, cousins, etc.) live in one of these Muslim regions. I'm not a muslim, but I have kind of personal relationship with the Islamic world. And it's a good time to write about it...
My relatives live in a town called Leninogorsk, which means literally - Lenin Hills. People call this place "oil town". It was built 60 years ago, because geologists have discovered large reserves of oil here. Oil pumps are everywhere in this region. Actually, it's a good object for meditation. These machines are continuously doing slow movements - up and down.

This town is located in the Tatarstan Republic, which is part of the Russian Federation. Most of the people in this region are Muslims. Here some information from wikipedia:

Established in 922, the first Muslim state within the boundaries of modern Russia was Volga Bulgaria from which the Tatars inherited Islam. Islam was introduced by missionaries from Baghdad around the time of Ibn Fadlan's journey in 922. Islam's long presence in Russia also extends at least as far back as the conquest of the Khanate of Kazan in 1552, which brought the Tatars and Bashkirs on the Middle Volga into Russia. The Russian Orthodox Church is the second largest active religion in this region during last 150 years. The region's main source of wealth is oil. Tatarstan produces 32 million tonnes of crude oil per year and has estimated oil reserves of more than 1 billion tons. Tatarstan also hosted an international Muslim film festival which screened over 70 films from 28 countries including Jordan, Afghanistan and Egypt.

It is a monument of oil fountain in the city center...

These small towns with their small inhabitants are the most unpleasant phenomena in Russia. It's hard to tell how much I hate these same city with the same streets, the same houses, the same apartment, and same people. When you find yourself in such a small town, you feel completely alien. All these people are zombies in the same gray robes with the same gray thoughts. Their mind was destroyed by TV and lifestyle. When I have to communicate with the a zombie, I put the mask on myself : "I am the same as you". We are talking about that sausage is better than cream cheese; that today it is very windy, but still more heat; and tomorrow promised rain ... And, of course, talking about the price of oil, about Putin and the policy of Barack Obama. Classic topics for conversation among zombies.

Zombies live in a strictly-defined borders of  consciousness. They hid from life. They prefer to do not, thinking about anything. They are afraid that someone will destroy their way of life. They make our lives a monotonous and boring.
with best wishes,
