For the first time in a long time we don't have much going on for the long holiday weekend. Chris has done some gaming, Kate and I did a little fantasy home renovation shopping trip, puttered around the house, played some computer games. Just basic lazing around time off. We thought about doing the
Red, White, and Dead but Kate (in her words) didn't want any zombies "comming up and nomming" on her.
So, we stayed in.
I've been doing a bit of cooking e've had
Egg Salad BLTs and
Three Bean Salad,
Yukon Gold Potato Salad,
Warm Ham and Lentil Salad,
Wood-Grilled Salmon, and
Soba Salad with Soy-Wasabi Vinaigrette which I've linked to on Facebook but haven't blogged about. Lots of good food lately!
We've also fired up the TiVo and the Netflix queue. Our luck with movies hasn't been nearly as good or as classy as our food. We've watched some bad stuff, for laughs, like the 1979
Buck Rogers series. We caught up on some three-star flicks we'd "missed" before like
State of Play and
Troy. The best of the bunch has been Johnny To's
Exiled. It's been too long since Pramas and I enjoyed some Hong Kong Cinema together.
Of course, we needed a few cocktails to go with the food and films. so I started experimenting a little. I found a nice use for my green tea liqueur: one part green tea liqueur, two parts ginger infused vodka, shaken and served in a cocktail glass with a squeeze of lime. Mmm! I also shook up something like the beginning of an
Aviation but with blood orange juice added to the mix (one part gin, half part maraschino liqueur, one and a half parts blood orange juice. Mmm x2.
Tomorrow I hope to hit
Seattle International Beerfest for a little while before we head out to join some friends for a little Independence Day socializing.
