So I've been struggling to understand some stuff that's definitely biblical since forever. The whole thing about submissive wives, that is. The other day Dan presenting a bunch of stuff to me in a really cool way.
1Peter3:7
7Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
He said how that had always bothered him, because it was almost as if husbands were tolerating their stupid weak wives, which is obviously not how life is. Then, he said, he realized that since men are called to lead and women are called to submit what the verse is really saying is not that women ARE weaker but that they make themselves vulnerable. WOW, now that shines alot of light on the subject. God is not saying, you are stupid and weak and should shut up, too bad I made you with so much brilliance and spiritl; He's saying put yourself in a vulnerable position in which you can trust Me and your husband. Likewise, if men are to be proper leaders, they are ultimately just submitting to the needs of their families. Dan said something along the lines of, 'so, when you look at it that way, it's not that a wife should necessarily be serving her husband his dinner first while his feet are up, but more that HE should be making sure that SHE is taken care of' (thats misquoted I'm sure.) So really it's not about incompetent women and in control men which is how people have misconstrewed it, it's about loving and trusting one another so completely that you give up your own desires to meet their's. Idealistically (sp?), this means that you wouldn't have to be seeking control and making sure your wants are met because your partner is your advocate. Anyway, Idk if that's all I was going to say, but it's late. God is awesome.
