Anyone who judges you for how you feel isn't a person worth knowing. Everyone has a right to their feelings, no matter what they are. I would never presume to judge you for that -- especially because I've been there. When I was in high school, I suffered from crippling self-doubt issues to the point where I was pretty much a recluse when I wasn't in classes.
I went through a pretty bad period of self-loathing when I got divorced, too. My entire family (& most of my friends) seemed to think that it was MY fault the marriage hadn't worked out, even though *I* was not the one fucking around with underage kids. Apparently, everyone thought I should have looked the other way & ignored his screwing around (in my bed, even!) just because they thought it was SOOOO all-important to be married.
That was when I decided that I had to live my life to make ME happy, & not the people around me who thought I should try my best to fit THEIR image of what I should be, instead of just being myself. Once you let go of those expectations that others put on you & learn to put your own needs & thoughts ahead of theirs, THEN you're on the way to being a happier person.
I don't mean that you should neglect others. Of course not. But you have to learn to put yourself first in this world -- because if you don't, then others won't either.
It wasn't until I started writing fanfic a few years ago that I really found my niche & settled into my "happy place." So many people -- especially in that horrid ONTD comm & fanficrants -- have tried to put me down & take that happiness away from me, but I've just given them a big "fuck you" & a raspberry, & gone about my merry way. You can't let others get you down! Really, liking yourself & being happy with who you are is the first big step. Once you can do that, then the rest comes easy. :)
