Another 8 miler, up to Lake Needwood and back. I was able to go the whole distance without hitting my limit like I did on my last 8 miler. I was pretty wiped out, but definitely felt like I could have gone further, especially if I took a short break first. I also knew the trail (it was an out and back starting and ending at my house), which helped psychologically. I could say "oh, we're at this road, so it's only 2.8 miles from home!"
I was stupid and didn't check my water level after using the bladder yesterday. And so, with more than 3 miles left before home, I was out of water. Stupid! Didn't like how the GU affected my tummy, but since I still have two other packets, will see how they work on future, shorter trips. LOVED the Honey Stinger Protein Bar. It tasted good, and, after eating it at the halfway point, I felt energized and not hungry for the rest of the walk and beyond.
The toes on my right foot are having some problems after about the 5 mile point in each of my walks. I don't know if it's the shoes or if it's my feet or what. At this point, once I stop walking the pain goes away. I haven't tried taking a break and then walking again, which will be my next test, I guess. The issue is with the bending of the toes and the pad of my foot, but doesn't seem to be with crowding, which is what I mostly see when I try to look up information on the subject. Maybe the folks at REI or the running store will be able to help me.
I bought a great
sweatshirt at REI this week. Wore it yesterday morning when I walked, and it was perfect! It was a very windy and cool morning, and with just a t-shirt underneath, I felt completely comfortable. Layered with a long sleeve wicking shirt, that should keep me warm until the real bitterness of winter sets in. Maybe beyond that, too, if I throw on a vest over it, with gloves and hat. I am pleased to say that the REI brand clothing all fits me just perfectly.
