So, I'm 40.  But I guess that's not news any more.

December has flown by, as evidenced from my lack of posts here.  I'm mostly just trying to keep on top of all things holiday and family related.

A few weeks ago, I did a holiday sale at my sister in law's house.  I was happy with the results of the sale, though I still have bunches of things left over.  I think the hats and such will be offered to the family at Xmas, and any left from that will go to an appropriate homeless shelter.  I'm still trying to figure out what to do with quilts and such.  I've still got 10-15 of my quilts that are usually just wrapped up in the closet.  I suppose I could start making an active effort to bring some of them out - I could do regular changings of what's hanging in the dining room.  But, really, I'd love the quilts to have good homes.

We've pretty much finished up all of our christmas shopping, with all the dramaz that goes along with that.  (I like to have a budget, Reil is not quite so tied to such an idea.)  Mostly I'm ready for the season to be over, in part because I've just not been able to get into it at all this year.  What is it, 6 more days until Christmas?  Thank goodness.

Tonight is a 4-H potluck dinner.  I've got a few pounds of chicken, and am going back and forth over whether to make Bstilla (the chicken fillo pie that is absolutely exquisite) or to make a Chicken with Almonds and Honey dish that is also very very tasty, but which needs certain as yet untried alterations to the recipe.  The chicken would be easier to make, but the results would be unknown (probably just fine).  The bstilla is more difficult, but the results are fantastic.  And i'd have to pick up cilantro.
You know, when the worst decisions you have to make are on this level, life isn't too bad, right?

I've been knitting a lot.  I know.  You're shocked.  After making a bazillion hats, I'm trying to move back into the bigger items.  I've got two wraps on the needles.  One is using Mountain Colors yarn (including he big ball of yarn that I bought a few months ago), and has colorwork going on.  The other is a lace wrap based on the Irish Diamond Shawl pattern.  I've got a gorgeous yarn with browns and a little pink/red.  It's just beautiful, and though I'm not much of a lacy wrappy girl, I don't think this is going to anyone else.  I'm bouncing around some other ideas, including a big gigantic hat to eat up a lot of my stash.

Because, mostly I'm really in a stash busting/cleaning up sort of mode.  The hats ate up a bunch of yarn, but not all of it.  I'm really not looking for a zero sum here, because I do like buying and having yarn.  But I'd also like to turn the studio into more of an all purpose craft/play/guest room.  This requires moving more stuff to the closet/shelves, and eventually getting a guest futon, etc.  Yesterday I dropped off a bunch of craft/art supplies with the art teacher from the kids' school.  I hope they'll have fun with it.  I need to get the light fixed in that room, too, which is just generally annoying.  I wish I was an electrician.

Have I mentioned that it's been about 16 months since I last went to California and I'm really starting to feel it?  We're not going to go again until a) the credit card debt is paid off and b) we can buy the tickets with cash.  So, it's probably not going to happen until at least this time next year.  And that kind of bums me out.  Reil is kind of depressed about his job and sort of wishes we hadn't moved.  We don't have the option to move to California right now, not really, so I'm just not even contemplating whether we made a good move or not.  I'm just trying to keep involved in things here, strengthening friendships, and all that.

Have I written enough?  I'll try to update more regularly so that i'm not writing tomes.
