calling all html geeks!

Apr 14, 2008 11:26

there was an html code i saw somewhere that prohibited a user from stealing an image by dragging and dropping it to a desktop. i'm sure this isn't foolproof - this is more to deter the casual user from stealing my work.

but i can't find it anywhere!

can anyone help me? please, thanks.

I've come across sites who put a clear "cover" over their images to keep them from being snagged--when someone tries to save the file, all they get is a blank image. Not sure how that's done, if it's in the file itself or something html-based, but it's something to look into perhaps.

Good luck!

you wouldn't happen to have a url of a site that uses that kind of thing, do you?

Sadly, it has been too long since I happened across such a site. If I could help, I definitely would!

Aha! I came across such a site, hiding in plain view: cafepress. I tried to snag an image from there (A picture of staff markings with a rest under a fermata, with the caption, "Everybody Shut Up!") and it gave me a blank "spacer.gif" image.

It won't stop the most persistent of thieves, but it'll slow them down.
