Dimsie by Dorita Fairlie Bruce
Lesley Musgrave/Ursula Grey
PG/PG13
Set in the time frame of Dimsie Moves Up Again, when Dimsie, Pam and Fenella are lost. The first paragraphs, down to "from her" are lifted almost word for word from that book, albeit shortened.

"How could you possible be lonely here at Jane's, with all of us?"

Ursula gave a sad little laugh as she sat in bed with Lesley's warn body tucked beside her.

"Ever hear of being alone in a crowd, Lesley? Because that describes it more or less."

Lesley lay in silence, and slowly the truth of the statement sank into her mind. She suddenly awake to the fact that here was a much more congenial study than Fenella Postlethwaite, but she had no desire to adopt Ursula in any such role; it was something more that she wanted from her.

"Ursie..." she said slowly.

"Oh, I know it's my own fault," Ursula continued hurriedly. "I should have made more effort - barged in a bit."

"No, it's not that. I just wish... I wish I'd realised before that you were lonely. Ursie, won't you be my friend?"

"So you can study me, as you do Fenella?"

"You pig!" Lesley gave Ursula a friendly push, but then laid her head softly on her shoulder. "No, my dear. Not like that. Not even like I'm friends with Toni and her crowd." She hesistated. "I... I'm not much good at this, but - won't you be my special friend?"

"What do you mean?" Ursula's voice was wobbly with a mixture of hope and a fear that she was misunderstanding Lesley's words.

For reply, Lesley put a hand on Ursula's cheek and gently turned her so that they were looking straight into each other's eyes.

"I mean this," she said softly, and kissed her.

She felt as well as heard Ursula's sharp intake of breath, could feel the trembling of Ursula's hands as she reached out to hold Lesley close.

"Lesley..." Ursula murmured; but Lesley silenced her with another kiss, and another, until they found themselves exploring a new different world together: brighter, more dazzlingly beautiful than anything Ursula had ever imagined.

Mouth to mouth, breast to breath, legs entwined, they blotted out their worries, their anxieties, their every day existence in a moment of sheer joyous love.

"I mean this," Lesley whispered again, shakily, as they lay in each other's arms.

"Yes," said Ursula; and they saw in each other everything they had wished for.
