The 1st Annual DIY (do-it-yourself) Craft Bazaar!
When: Saturday, May 27th
9am-5pm
Where: The Rotary Park in historic downtown Dayton, TN
BOOTHS: $10 each
BANDS: $10 to cover costs
FOOD VENDORS: $10 a space
Fashion show participants: needed
POETRY READING: needed

Vintage or handmade items only (No flea market or yard sale items).

All booths will be around 12x 12 or so. There are some round tables at the park that can be used but you are welcome to furnish your own. Tents are welcome also. I have a few freestanding clothing racks on loan if needed. Electric is available, but because of bands playing there may not be enough outlets for everyone so it is generally first come, first serve, as are spaces. Set-up begins at 8 am, and everything needs to be taken down by 6pm.

CRAFT VENDORS: We are looking for any handmade crafts, clothing, artwork, photography, vintage clothing and accessories, etc. Make sure to bring business cards or anything to get your name popularized if you have a pre-existing business or are just starting up one.

FOOD VENDORS: Any type of food is welcome but a food permit must be on-site and visible.

BANDS: The $10 fee covers a merchandise booth and electric, stage, etc. We will have a PA system on the stage so you dont have to borrow one. We are looking for anything not too loud and scary, as it IS a craft fair. If you want to play and do play metal or hardcore, send us a song or two just to give us a general idea and well see what we can do as far as city restrictions go. I would like to have a few bands throughout the day so it would be great if anyone is interested in doing so. J

FASHION SHOW PARTICIPANTS:
We need at least 10 participants for the fashion show at 3:00 pm. This is a chance for vendors to showcase their clothing products (for sale or display) or for people who would like to model clothing they own or made to have a chance to do so. This is a good chance for people to dress up crazy and do the modeling strut. Just let me know that you are in and we can organize it during the early part of the morning.

POETRY READING: Anyone is welcome to participate. We are probably going to have the poetry reading around 1 PM. My only request is that it be your own poetry, songs, comedy, etc, and if it is not please credit the artist when you begin. You re welcome to add more to your performance such as music or extra performers. No profanity or nudity, please. J

ARTISTS: If you have art or photography for sale, you are welcome to set it up on easels or around the stage if you do not want to have a whole booth. Just make sure to put prices and your name on them so that people can familiarize themselves with you.

The rules:

- All items must be handmade/reconstructed or vintage. (no flea market items or yard sale items)

-Food vendors must have a food permit onsite.

-Bands can play for $10 which covers stage/advertising/electric/pa/merch boothspace. They will be playing for free but it is good exposure and the potential to earn money off donations/merchandise. No outrageously loud bands or lewd profanity, please.

-Event will be cancelled if bad weather occurs.

-Booth areas will be first come, first serve. There is space for around 22-24 booths, but space will be limited as it gets closer to time so please let me know if you plan on coming so I can keep count.

-No alcoholic beverages or littering allowed on premises.
-$10 booth fee must be paid at time of set-up on Saturday morning.
-Decorate your booths however you want.

- I will be advertising this like crazy, but I have flyers available if you want to help out and get more people to show up.

If you want in on any of these activities, please get in touch with me and let me know who you are, contact info, and your business/band name if applicable and confirm the need of a boothspace. I will be putting a final timetable of events together as soon as I get a final number of participants. I think this will be a success, or at least a good opportunity to get a community effort involved and get some exposure for creative people. J

In addition to the DIY fair, there are several local businesses and attractions in the area. The Heartland Grill and JacobMyers Deli have awesome food and great prices. The General Store and Smiths Crossroads offer antiques as well as coffee drinks. There are several antique stores, consignment shops, and speciality stores on Main Street, Market Street, and 1st/2nd Avenue. There is the infamous courthouse which has a museum open during the day which tells of the Scopes Trial and life and times of famous people in the town. There are also several parks and recreation areas, including Point Park, the Walking Track, tennis courts, and Pocket Wilderness. Main Stage Music is an amazing music store that has equipment as well as a recording studio. There will soon be a skate park in downtown Dayton as well. There are also several commercial restaurants and stores in the area for all your needs.

For directions from your city, go to www.mapquest.com and go to driving directions and type in 1475 Market Street and Dayton, TN. This is the address to the courthouse and the closest I could find. The Rotary park is downtown on 2nd Avenue right next to the old courthouse and has a large fountain at the opening of it. Driving time from Cleveland (you dont get on I-75 to get here) is approximately 35-45 minutes, Chattanooga is about the same, and Knoxville is about 1 hours away. If Mapquest says it is much longer, let me know where you are coming from and I will find a faster alternate route for you and personally send you directions. If you get lost, call 423-570-8029 or call the Dayton Chamber of Commerce for directions: 423) 775-0361
