The week was amazing. I had a great time. I went alone and camped, ate, read, learned and relaxed. I met a lot of wonderful people that are passionate about glass as much as I am. I had the opportunity to learn from them as well. I took as many classes as I could and experienced as much as I could while the weather was decent. I hear that the weather was nicer than it has been in past years. Although the heat was in the 90's it was bearable in the shade.
Spiders, well that's another story altogether. I am afraid of them. While I was putting up my tent, a soul pad, my neighbor tenter also a soul pad owner decided to tell me all about the spiders and that there are also brown recluse that I have to watch out for. This freaked me out. That evening I spent checking all the corners of my round tent to see what kind of bugs where in there. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... spiders.
After each one I texted my husband in a panic, to tell him that I survived another spider invasion. 6, 7, 8, 9, .... OMG I was getting ready to scream, I couldn't handle it any more. Then I got an idea, so I searched all my bags for some kind of miracle. Alas, I found it. DUCT TAPE. Yes, I duct taped down the floor tarp to base of the canvas. I was able to get abot 3/4ths the way around and then I was able to put stuff on the edges to weight it down on the rest. That night it stormed and I slept well and bug free. The next day I went and got more tape to finish off the circle. We have a 16 foot diameter soulpad, so going around the whole thing took 2 rolls of tape.
When it was time to pack it of for the week and I removed the tape from the floor. I had mixed feelings when I saw the copius amount of random bugs that were stuck to the tape. Good that they were not in my tent that week but sad to see so many little lifes taken. After the duct tape was applied I am happy to announce that there were usually 2 or less wolf spiders that I had to dispose of each night. On the 4th night was the first time that I had seen a daddy long legs that I was able to release back to the wild.
Friday, I packed up and loaded the car and was off to Owatanna, MN for some more SCA and to see my hubby.
