Help Name My Project!

Feb 07, 2011 21:12

Almost done with this project and I'm wondering if I need a better name.

It's a Nagios configuration management and deployment tool, built on Django. I have tentatively named it NaDjios.

How does that name feel to you? Good, Bad, What?

I think that's fine, but I wonder if you can play with the origins of both "parents". Django apparently is Romani for "I awake" (whe knew)? and Nagios apparently deriving from the greek word for saint.

So I start thinking about awakening and sainthood ... could be something there. Not sure what.

I take it NaDjios is pronounced the same way as lots of people pronounce "Nagios"*? That sounds like a recipe for confusion in spoken-not-written communication.

* It always looked like nah-ghee-os to me, but I keep hearing people say nah-jee-os.

"Nahd-jios"

There's a 'd' in there that sounds funny when my russian boss pronounces it.

What if you call it "Nachos" ("NaDjios" pronounced fast)? That might be memorable. It's got a little more of a newish flavor to it.

Or you could be sweet and call it Nadja.

It's gonna get nicknamed Nachos whatever you do, you know.

I think NaDjios is clever but unsustainable, due to the spoken communication errors mentioned above.

If you want to go with the root words above, Eos is the Greek god of dawn, and akegata is the romaji for dawn (according to google). Akeos?

I like the suggestion of Nachos that someone else made. It's catchy, and sounds like a little of both Nagios and Django without being overt about it.

I have one small linguistic note to make about NaDjios. It sounds a tad close to the word "najis" in Malay, which means, well, poo. Not a very ninja name, I know. Sorry, had to mention it, yes I did.
