So I had my first day at GE today, and it went pretty well, except for one key issue: they still have not yet assigned me an SSO.
(Hear that? That was the sound of every current and former GE employee or contractor on my F-list laughing their alleged balls off.)
The SSO is this particular number, much like an employee i.d., without which I can do almost NOTHING. I can't get a badge or a parking sticker. I can't get email. I can't order a computer. I can't order office supplies or a nametag for my cube. I can't go to any GE webpages, which is where most of the tools for my job reside.
Effectively, I do not yet exist.
So tomorrow morning I have to stop by Reception to demand that they give me a temporary tag that does not say ESCORT REQUIRED in big red letters, because I am an EMPLOYEE, not an INTERVIEWEE, and then I have to go see a particular woman in HR to try to unclog the logjam holding back my SSO.
Whee!
(For those of you who work at GE and want to know how to get ahold of me, drop me a message and I'll let you know who is training me, since I'm at her desk all day, and you can find me through her till further notice.)
self,
work
