Folks using the Archive of Our Own! Does anyone have a preferred system of tagging characters who have multiple names? Like, for instance, Wolverine. I used the scans_daily format, but it looks too much like the pairing format. Thoughts?

I discovered that there were tag wranglers dealing with the multiple names issue because I managed to give one of them a headache by starting up a fandom tag for my crazy spy fandom in which everyone has 5 different names. Presumably, they have Marvel covered already. :)

Heya. Just for reference, the size limit on names is 42 characters. If you've got somebody with a really long name and a really long code name/pseudonym/callsign/alias/etc., you could always just tag with one or the other and wait for tag wranglers to connect the two to each other. For canonical tags, we've been using parentheses for certain kinds of disambiguation: Bob Smith (blah blah fandom), Bob Smith (Bob Smith's cool spy name), etc. We also sometimes use the standard nickname quotes thing: Bob "really unique nickname" Smith. Not that people have to tag their fics that way! Those are just some ideas that don't look like pairing names.
