A/N: I'm so sorry it was so late. On another note, here's the first Kurogane/Fai piece I've written in forever, it feels like.
Kurogane is home, and all is not as well as it should be.
He can see it in the eyes of his old friends, Tomoyo particularly: this is wrong. He disagrees, disagrees utterly and completely, but to see his princess’ face in such a quandary is no easy experience. And Fai so obviously knows what is said, what is felt, and yet when they get the chance there is nothing said.
But they say: this man does not belong here.
And they say: this man has done nothing but damage you.
And they say: if you cannot speak now, how will you ever survive a lifetime or more?
Shouldn’t it be enough that I make sure he survives? Kurogane wants to ask, but he doesn’t because it would be a pointless question. And he keeps Fai around and doesn’t need to ask him to drink when the time comes, but all is still not well. At night Kurogane’s arm is cold metal above them both, and he cannot help but think it comes between them; a warning, a barrier.
It’s been a while since Syaoran, the second Syaoran, joined the dream, and they’ve all been hoping and holding things inside and not communicating and Kurogane feels he will go insane from the suspense. But Tomoyo bites her lip and Souma worries and Ameterasu blames and Fai just watches with the grim face that no longer hides behind a cracked smile. And so Kurogane tries to hold things together.
It’s not easy, waiting for the story to end.
But this is home, Kurogane thinks, and I’ll wait as long as I damn well need to.
Despite the best of intentions, though, all is not well.
