When I was in Ireland back in November, work decided to send me to San Jose for six months come January, but then that fell through. Instead work decided to send me to England for six months come April, but today I found out that trip isn't going to happen either. So now I'm staying put. Things are getting more stable at work, but that stability actually means fewer travel opportunities. The travel window has closed.
The real tragedy* in all this is that because I now have no escape, I won't be able to outsource the purchase of a new dining room set to others, but I'll have to be actively involved myself. I really don't enjoy shopping for furniture. (That said, I do love the new sectional in the living room. Now, everybody gets a recliner!)
* Another tragedy is that I'll now be in Ottawa for my birthday. My sister wants me to have a deep fat fryer so that she can borrow it on special occasions. The only way to stop her is to preempt her by buying her household one before she buys me one. Unfortunately, there are two birthdays in my household before there are any in her's. Out of desperation, I'm considering buying my nephew one for Easter. Is three-years old too young to own dangerous kitchen appliances?
