"Strahan, I really don't need someone accompanying me. Not to the forest and least of all tonight."

Rabastan was, to say the least, quite upset at the thought that Strahan had had the nerve to interject himself into the wizard's affairs. This wasn't training this was the real deal. Ring or no ring Rabastan was schedualled to transform into a wolf as per the specifications of the curse.

And to have someone come along, either to watch or to participate, made him particularly cross. He did not want to be watched. Not now. Not when he was paying a perverted sort of homage to the moon by becoming a creature long linked to it.

"I suggest you leave me the fuck alone; I don't need anyone to babysit me-least of all you."

Strahan just continued to smile the maddeningly serene smile he'd worn when he came across Rabastan, and stroked the breast feathers of his hawk Sakti. Rabastan, he must be thinking, was simply being impertinent, and mostly because of the moon's pull on the wizard's mind and body.

"I told you Rabastan Lestrange, twice already, that I intend to accompany you for your transformation tonight to ensure that the lessons you learned with the Seker and myself have made an impression upon you. And I will brook no opposition, not from you or anyone else, so you might as well resign yourself to enduring my presence."

Rabastan's eyes-already an intense yellow as the wolf stirred within him-blazed with fury. That idiot Ihlini was not taking "no" for an answer. This required a redoubled effort.

"I don't give a toss about what you and your god think, want or say. I'm going and I'm going alone. And if you don't leave me now I might find a way to bypass the wolfsbane and tear your fucking throat out!"

His nostrils flared. "Angry" he most certainly was, and getting angrier, because-Merlin's balls!- that smile was grating the only unflared nerve he had left. "Now, if you don't mind, you can go fuck yourself. Or your god. I really don't care."

"Vulgarities will not sway me Rabastan; I am coming."

"I said fuck off!"

"And I say I am coming. The wolves are already outside waiting for us to head out."

"Call them back in, you stupid todger."

Strahan just laughed. And Rabastan, unable to take it any more, thrust out his hand to grab Strahan by the throat. Choke him. Strahan died once; he can die again.

"I said call your stupid mutts in and leave me alone!"

Strahan smiled, raised his hand, sent Rabastan hurtling to the floor without a single word spoken.

"You may curse me and use profanity against me," he said as he crossed the space between them, to where Rabastan lay slightly asprawl. "but when I intend to do something I will take no opposition. Least of all from an underfed wizard who hasn't the sense to keep himself out of harm's way, being as headstrong as Keely and as impulsive as Corin, but lacking the restraint and remorse of either."

"I have remorse. Restraint."

"Oh aye you do. Now. Which is why you are lying there prone at my feet."

Rabastan scrambled up, adjusted his robes and gave Strahan a rude gesture making it plain just what he thought the Ihlini should go and do with himself tonight. Again Strahan smiled.

"Now. We were heading out?"

The quirk of his winged brow belied the fact that he was applying a fair amount of mental pressure on Rabastan, reminding the wizard just who was in charge here, and how easy it is to crush a man who refuses to listen to those superior to himself.

"We were heading out."

The door, now opened, saw the departure of sorcerer, wizard and hawk. Out into the sunset and out into the forest.

So that Rabastan's progress could be measured in the appropriate setting for a werewolf.
