Sometimes he'd get it from the wizarding news service-wireless and assorted papers that so far were still daring enough to report stories the prophet wouldn't touch.
Most of the time, he got it from Muggle sources.
Some crazed wild beast had been roaming southern England for at least a month and a half now, and authorities were baffled as to what it was.
Come to think of it, there was some debate on whether it was just one, and not several creatures, because there was no way any natural creature could appear in one town one night, and then a day or two later, appear in a second town at least a hundred miles away, if not further still.
The Muggles had no clue what they were chasing, but one person did know.
Had an idea.
It takes a wizard to identify a wizard, after all.
This wizard knew that what the Muggles were dealing with [what he thought must be] was an unregistered Animagus.
After having been freed a couple of years ago he'd learned about all the things that had happened during his incarceration. Things like how many Animagi there were since 1981. Registered at least.
And the list of known Animagi had only increased by one between 1981 and 1995, leaving the conclusion that this was someone who had avoided registration and was now mocking magical authority and Muggle science both so openly.
There was only one thing he had to do, he realised as he set down his paper and left the cafeteria with a rather generous 100-pound note for the waitress.
Catch the man or woman before things really got out of hand...
