So Cat and I go to my house on Wednesday and Cat prep's everything for her stuffing. Then we go to sleep and the next day start making the stuffing and Cat's ambrosia. I end up helping my dad move tables around and around 11 am my aunt comes over to start helping prep stuff. Around 12 the lights start to flicker and grow bright and then get very dim, so we shut everything off and see if its just centered in the kitchen. Well its our whole house. At this point everyone who's coming over is pretty much there. About 24 people at that point. Then people smell smoke in the kitchen and one of my uncles and my aunts brother say the microwave is on fire and they haul it out back while its still smoking. My dad opens it up and its on fire and the closest liquid on hand is windex so he sprays the fire out with that.
So at this point we've called the power company twice, with no response so my dad calls the fire department and they send a truck out with three guys. So they take a look at all the power sockets that had surge protectors that melted in them to make sure there were no fires in the walls. Then they shut off our power at the main breaker and called the power company to get them out there because its pretty serious. At this point the women in my family are out front taking pictures in front of the fire truck and talking about how one of my aunts thought they were strippers. As the firemen are leaving they give their horn a honk and some of the women in my family are all Wooooo! and cheering.
At this point the turkey is ready and my dad starts carving it, and the electrician appears and he decides he needs to get another guy out there so the other guy comes and they climb up to the part where the power cable reaches my house. They find that the aluminum wire that is the neutral for the house has corroded so they clean it up and clamp it down with a copper clamp. So by about 2:30 ish we have full power and can eat our dinner in peace.
Other events that happened: I let two of my cousins, Kristen and Kayla, play with Chompsky and eventually took the hamster away because he needed a break. My great uncle's cousin Billy brought a giant spider that bit him in the back over in a giant jar filled with alcohol. Played some Mexican Train domino's with the family, Cat won a few times. Listened to great stories from my great uncle and cousin Billy.
In total 25 people were by the house that day not including 3 firemen and 2 electricians. The total damage due to the surging power is still unknown but at this point it's one microwave, three surge protectors, one cd player, our cable internet connection (now back up and running), and one ground fault surge protector in the wall. So this thanksgiving will be one to remember. Luckily Cat and I were able to get some laundry done and came home on friday. We now have a fake christmas tree which we will put up in a few days.
Last night we watched Margret Cho, Notorious Cho and rented Amile as well. Notorious Cho was good, but not as good as some of her other stuff.
